Elisabeth Moss To Star In True Crime Series, 'Candy' On Hulu

Picture
Elisabeth Moss starred in AMC's hit series Mad Men (2007-2015), Hulu series The Handmaid's Tale (2017) and films The One I Love (2017), and The Invisible Man (2020). Now, the actress is expanding her relationship with Hulu with a drama project.

The streaming company has landed Candy. Robin Veith is the writer and co-executive alongside Nick Antosca. Both Veith and Antosca worked together on The Act from which Patricia Arquette won a Emmy Award and a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or Movie.

A writer's room is being setup to support the project, Candy, which is being reported by UCP a division of Universal Studio Group, and 20th Television.

The limited series is set in Texas during the year 1980 and is based on the true story of killer Candy Montgomery and her victim, Betty Gore. Moss will play the role of Montgomery, who seemingly had it all at her fingertips - a loving husband, a booming career, two children, and a new house in the suburbs - with life going so perfectly, why did Montgomery use an ax to kill her friend from church?

Moss will also be the executive producer alongside Lindsey McManus through their Love & Squalor production company. Antosca and Alex Hedlund will assist with production through their production company, Eat The Cat. Jim Atkinson and John Bloom have been named consulting producers. Veith, who also wrote on the hit show Mad Men, wrote the pilot and the script. Michael Upphendahl has been named the director of the project. Uppendahl's experience comes from directing episodes of Mad Men and Fargo.

With this project bringing together talent from award winning shows such as The Act, The Handmaid's Tale, and Mad Men - it is clear why Hulu was interested. The dystopian drama, The Handmaid's Tale, which stars Moss is heading into its fourth season in 2021, while last year, Hulu revealed that The Act, which stars Joey King and Patricia Arquette, brought in more new subscribers among Hulu originals during its first month.

When Candy was being shopped around earlier this summer, Moss expressed interest in the opportunity to play an anti-heroine character and found herself pairing well with this project given the opportunity to work with Veith again.
