Oscar winning actor Christian Bale is officially entering the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He recently accepted the role of Gorr the God Butcher in the fourth installment of the Thor franchise that will be directed by Taika Waititi. Bale's character, which is a part of the original Marvel comic IP, inherits supernatural powers and looks to destroy all gods as payback after his family is killed. He has a history of run-ins with Thor and Loki.
Christian is joining an all-star cast that includes, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Natalie Portman to return as female Thor and Tessa Thompson to play Marvel's first LQBTQ+ hero. The flick is expected to release to theaters May 6, 2022. The Bale casting and character was confirmed by Marvel's Kevin Feige during the Marvel portion of Disney's Investor Day. The film was first announced by Marvel at San Diego's Comic-Con in September 2019 with the plot including Portman's character to become the first female Thor seen on screen. The Thor franchise has grossed more than $1.9 billion worldwide.
